Programs/ Subjects

PRIMARY YEAR 3 – YEAR 6

Mathematics (Numeracy Skills)

Years 3 to 6 students will cover a number of concepts with a strong focus on developing basic facts of Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division. Students will be explicitly taught how these facts will help solve other areas of the curriculum including:

  • Number and Algebra
  • Measurement and Geometry
  • Statistics and Probability

As students progress to the higher grades, they will develop problem solving skills to solve more complex questions. The questions we design are align to the Mathematical Olympiad encouraging our students to use multiple methodologies to problem solve, thus stimulating to ‘think outside the box’.

English – Reading and Writing

Our English program consists of 2 components: Reading and Writing.

In Reading, students will read a wide range of texts and develop their comprehension skills. In Writing, students will be taught how to correctly structure sentences, create meaningful paragraphs and to independently write a whole text. They will be modelled and taught how to revise and edit their own work with a strong focus on developing their vocabulary, grammar, spelling and punctuation skills. Students will study how good authors write and will be expected to write to a range of purposes including Imaginative, Persuasive, and Informative texts.

Selective Trials and O.C Preparation

Students will be more comfortable and confident with the examination process if they are familiar with the format, types of questions and exam condition. Our Selective Schools/O.C preparation program consists of Practice exam questions that will help students familiarise and be comfortable with the exam format, develop effective time management and strategies for the best result outcome.

We run weekly lessons that will cover all test components of:

Reading Test

The reading test are under simulated exam condition with a set time limit to complete the test. The questions will be based on a diverse range of texts and assess a range of reading skills.

The reading test questions are based on different genres such as non-fiction, fiction, poetry, magazine articles and reports.

Mathematical Reasoning Test

The mathematical reasoning test assesses the student’s ability to apply mathematical understanding and knowledge to problems with questions drawn from a range of mathematical content areas. All questions will be reviewed with difficult questions thoroughly explained.

Thinking Skills Test

The thinking skills test assesses the student’s ability in critical thinking and problem solving. There are a range of different question types in the test.

Writing Test

The writing test consists of a topic about which students must write according to the instructions. The test assesses the student’s creativity of ideas and the ability to write effectively for a purpose and audience. The test will also assess grammar, punctuation, spelling and vocabulary.
